For today’s segment of my Get to Know series, I’d like to share some more about Andrea Moss’ fabulous work at Moss Wellness. As a certified health and nutrition counselor, Andrea is my go-to person for nutrition and wellness guidance. As I mentioned earlier, Andrea’s 5 day cleanse has done wonders for me and discovering my gluten allergy. I encourage everyone to check out her programs!
What was the impetus for you starting Moss Wellness? What did you think was missing in the nutrition and wellness field?
I love to help men and women stop torturous dieting, and find a way of eating and living that allows them to reach their ideal weight while feeling good and having fun. Most diet plans/nutritionists approach healthy eating as a one-size-fits-all plan. I create highly customized, individualized plans based on my clients’ unique body types, lifestyle, and preferences.
Where and when did you decide to begin your practice? What do you like most about it?
I currently have offices in Union Square in Manhattan, as well as in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I also work with clients all over the country by phone.
I started my practice in 2008 after personally battling with my weight for many years. When I stopped dieting and started eating real, natural foods that worked for my specific body, I finally lost the weight and kept it off. I love helping my clients stop the dieting rollercoaster and find a lifestyle plan that works for them. Giving people back their freedom, and bringing pleasure back to eating wholesome, real, delicious foods, brings me joy every day!
What do you feel distinguishes Moss Wellness from other nutrition and health-oriented businesses?
I practice a holistic approach to health and wellness, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect your health as a whole.
My programs are highly customized, and are designed for the specific individual I am working with. The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has her or his own food and lifestyle needs. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets tend to fail in the long run. Working on the principle of bio-individuality, I’ll support you in making positive changes that are based on your unique needs, lifestyle, personal preferences, and background. Instead of prescribing one fix for all people, I use a personalized, holistic approach that is based on your needs.
What kinds of programs do you make available to wedding couples?
I work with couples to help them feel their best on their wedding day. For some, that means feeling lighter/leaner/trimmer on their big day, while for others, it may mean boosting energy levels, getting rid of digestive issues or clearing up skin concerns so that they look beautifully radiant and glowing on their wedding day!
Everyone should feel radiant and confident (and energized!) on their wedding day. It is your moment to shine and share the love and excitement with your friends and family. You deserve the self-care, self-love, and support needed to get you looking and feeling your best.
What are the benefits of doing the “Reboot Cleanse,” and how often do you think clients should partake?
The Reboot cleanse is a 5 or 10-day cleanse designed using real foods for real results. For clients who want to gain energy, reduce “fluff” weight, and get on track (or back on board) with healthy eating, this is the perfect fit. Included are 5 or 10 days of step-by-step instructions (complete with recipe booklet and information packet) and support throughout the whole process. I am very proud to say this was named one of the top 3 cleanses in NYC by Well&Good NYC!
I run group Reboot cleanses 3 times per year, and also offer individual, one-on-one Reboot cleanses. I recommend doing a cleanse at least once per year and up to 6 times per year, depending on your specific health/nutrition goals.
What is your ideal client?
I love motivated clients who are ready to bring on real change and real results. My ideal client is also someone who understands that this is not about the “quick fix.” By working together, you are creating real, lasting change for the rest of your life. This is not about a quick diet, but rather, taking the steps to create the radiant good health and ideal weight that has you feeling your best.
