Here are a few of my faves from Rioult dance company’s showcase performance for APAP at New York City Center. This first piece, The Violet Hour(2012) was inspired by the poetry of T.S. Eliot. The Violet Hour is the hour of expectation, the transition from day to night. The time between reality and dream, memory and desire.. The next piece is from Views of the Fleeting World(2008) an integration of the musical form of the fugue (fugere: to flee), the scenic design (slowly moving projections on the backdrop) and fugal and contrapuntal choreographic elements. Costumes were influenced by woodcut prints of the Japanese master Hiroshige.
