Fashion tips: What should you wear for headshots, engagement sessions and more

With social media like Facebook and LinkedIn plus more and more people spending time online with cellphones, ipads and computers; photos and videos have become more important. Plus with all the events surrounding weddings like engagement parties, showers, rehearsals and even the honeymoon looking great and feeling great in person and in photos is a big deal. So, I asked Stylist/Image consultant/Personal shopper, Mona Sharaf, to give a few tips for choosing the outfits that will make you look your best.

1. Know your right colors.
Wearing your right colors will make a tremendous difference in your photos. Skin, hair and eyes will all appear brighter, younger and clearer when you’re wearing the colors that are right for you.

2. Necklines
Necklines should be the same shape as your face shape to create the most fluid, balanced appearance. eg. round face, round neckline.

Patterns on your clothing should correlate to your facial features.  Small facial features should wear small patterns.  Distance between your facial features also plays a role.  Large distance between your facial features should wear patterns with distance between the patterns. ***In relation to photographs, I tend to encourage people to avoid patterns because they distract from your face and can cause a strange Moire pattern***

Size of accessories should be in balance with your size. e.g Heavier set/taller women can wear larger accessories. Also use accessories to change your focal points as need.  For instance, if you have a double chin wear a flashier necklace to bring attention away from your chin and towards your neck. textureEarrings should never be longer than half way down your neck.

5. Textures
Textured hair and skin can wear a more textured fabric.  Textured hair would be curls or thick waves.  Textured skin would be aged skin, freckles, blemished or scared skin. Textured fabrics include wool, lace, corduroy, flannel.

As Mona says, “Change your look, change your life” I enlisted her help with my own wardrobe and it was amazing. Not only did she give me a ton of confidence about the way I look, how to enhance my assets and how to downplay my negative areas but I also know what to buy to fit me and my style. I have been getting so many compliments. So I hope these tips help you when planning out your wardrobe for headshots, video shoots and all those pre-wedding events that will be documented over and over. Your facebook feed will never look better.
