I love photographing intimate weddings more and more these days. Intimate does not necessarily mean small but it really means close family and friends. It means completely personal and keeping the traditions they want and adding their own twist. More and more of my weddings are about the couple celebrating with the closest people in their lives, asking these people to embrace them on this journey they want to take together. I see people come from as far away as China and Australia! Now if that is not love and commitment to these couples, I am not sure what is.
Cynthia and Carl are no different. They have been together 20 years! They finally decided they should make it official. They met doing kung fu. She’s a champion and has been known to take Carl down to the mat a few times. They decided to have a chinese tea ceremony for their wedding and then just have cocktails and lunch with family and friends. It was really fun to see all their worlds collide.
They didn’t want to be traditional and have wedding rings so they go these superhero rings instead. Wonder twins activate!
These are their Kung Fu friends. She was showing off her skills in heels!
As we ventured after the wedding to Brooklyn Park to get photos of the Brooklyn Bridge it began to rain. So went back to their place, did family photos under the awning. I then stood in the rain shooting down the street so we could have outdoor photos of the two of them while they stood under the awning.
The rain let up for a few minutes and Cynthia enjoyed the sun.
It was short lived but they were willing to get this great shot on their cobblestone street. Who said rain spoils your wedding.
