I used to be a ballet dancer. I spent 21 years dancing, 7 of those years professionally. I was always tiny- I mean like size 0 tiny and ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. Once I ate whopper jrs twice a week for a month. They were right around the corner from my apartment and only 99cents. When you are a poor dancer in NY, that was a good deal. Anyway, I digress. Since I quit dancing, I have steadily gained weight. With the birth of my daughter, I completely lost my flat stomach and have never gained it back. Most who meet me say, I look great. But knowing what I used to look like and the lack of muscle tone I now have, I know I could look and feel better.
So, now I must learn a new way of eating and exercising. I have been eating better, more fruits and vegetables and being aware of how many calories I am consuming.Cutting back on carbs and junk. I am using a smaller plate to help with portion sizes. The one thing you have to be careful of, is not eating enough. If you don’t eat enough, your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down.
I am also making an effort to either go to the gym or do one of my exercise videos. Two that I really like are Core Rhythms and Turbo Jam. They both have dance elements and give a pretty good burn. I figure I need to include some dancing in my workout or I’ll get bored. If I don’t feel like working out, I throw on music and Allie and I will dance around the living room. Throwing around a three year old gives you a good burn and strong arm muscles. Yoga is also really great for calming the body, flexibility and just making me feel more centered.
I am no longer allowing the excuses, just looking forward and taking one step at a time.
Are there things you are doing to be healthier? Have you had success with a certain exercise or way of eating? Leave me a comment below. Thanks!

LOL! Seriously, I think it’s great. I just got a laugh out of you chucking Allie around the room…
I was being serious ryan! I don’t need to be a size zero but I definitely could be healthier, have muscle tone and fit into my clothes. I think a lot of us, especially women deal with weight and exercise on a regular basis. Just sharing what I am working on. Thanks for the humor.
I’ve had good experiences with jazz-ercize, the lite beer diet, and cat-tossing. Just food for thought.
