Meera and Tejjy’s story has the makings of a Bollywood movie. Meera and Tejjy were born in the same hospital, by the same doctor almost a year apart. They went to the same school, on the same school bus and she would go out in the evenings to play with the boys.
As Tejjy says, “It was interesting…about 12 boys and Meera. She would always be the last one picked but would always still come to play.”
They dated their senior year and then went their separate ways for college. She went to India and he came to the USA. Tejjy was heartbroken.
As Tejjy says, “Over the years, I finally got out of my shy youth and moved on both personally and professionally. I became a dentist and asking out women was not such a big deal anymore. I dated a lot…had a few long term relationships but there was always something missing!”
Over the years, they spoke now and again….birthday wishes and such but they had both moved on with their lives. Meera moved to Denver to be an architect and she decided to visit him in Philadelphia. They had a great time but he was single and she was in a relationship. She left and they went on with life. Then about a 1.5 years ago, Meera got a job in Baltimore. Meera says she took the job to be closer to Tejjy because their were feelings there and she needed to know if anything would happen.
Meera would visit Philly every other weekend. Eventually, she told Tejjy that she always wondered what it would be like to get back together with him.
Tejjy says,”I found myself feeling all these emotions again that I did when I was 18, but it was different. We were kids back then and now we were adults and it felt so much more complete. It was like life had gone in full circle. We had changed completely as people but still had that connection we had had so long ago. I finally realized what I had been missing out on in my other relationships. We had such a strong bond that we couldn’t believe that we had been apart for 12 years.”
Meera and Tejjy were married July 31, 2010.
Tejjy says, “My friends and family always asked me what I was waiting for. As I am Indian and traditionally, the guys get married around 25. I waited….not really sure for what…but I know now. I waited for the day Meera would walk back into my life!“
If that is not a LOVE story then I don’t know what is. Meera and Tejjy booked me over the phone so when I met them I was so excited because of their incredible love story. Listening and watching the two of them, I see the love between them. They compliment each other so well. Their wedding day was full of lots of love and support. They played a slideshow of images of them growing up at least 7 people gave toasts talking about how the two of them affected their lives. It is always a testament to who people are by what others say about them, act around them and are willing to do for them. If I even had half of what they have my life would be complete. I hope these images give insight into who they are and documents the love they share.
The beautiful church. I love all the stone.
Signing the marriage certificate. Big thanks to my second shooter, Kevin York for grabbing this image.
We tried going into the courtyard at City Hall but it was all locked up so we opted for the subway instead. It is actually pretty cool down there.
The reception was at the Chestnut Club. If you have never been it is a pretty cool space. It used to be an old movie theater and a few other things. It is easy to miss because it is above a store on Chestnut Street. It’s a little hidden gem right in downtown.
The faces as they watch the slideshow of their lives and love story.
The doctor that delivered Meera and Tejjy. She was there at the beginning of their lives and is now at the beginning of a new chapter in their lives
The toasts
Meera and her dad getting emotional as their cousin reads a letter from her brother who could not attend the wedding
The first dance
Then breaking out into a Bollywood number!
Right here, you can see all the love Tejjy has for Meera. I love this image.
Sofia,
Tejjy n I go back a long way, since dental school in India. I was unable to make it to this wonderful day.
Going through your photos, I must say that you have captured it wonderfully. Really enjoyed going through your work.
As an amateur photographer myself, I do appreciate the candid nature of your work, and the use of available light. These qualities really capture the emotion of the moment, and will be a joy to go through it in the years to come.
Ashwin
Sofia,
