New York Wedding Photographer: Love this image!

As the wedding season is winding down, I am beginning to have time to edit and post some of these beautiful weddings I have been shooting. I came across this image from a recent wedding. This image is one of my favorites from the year. I like the gritty doorway, the casual and suave look of the groom and most of all their intimate embrace. It has a sexy, sensual quality about the image. I love when I capture this level of intimacy in an image. I think it says so much about who they are as couple and how they feel about each other.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. If nothing else, I think it’s a really cool image.

What a beautiful photo - passionate yet playful, sensual yet serious - two hearts forever entwined.

Get to Know You Session: Down on the Farm: Lindsay and Mike

Lindsay and “Cutie”, I mean Mike, are getting married this Saturday. Yes, I called him “cutie” because Lindsay said that’s Mike’s nickname. We met up on a warm day at her family’s farm to do their engagement photos, AKA Get to Know You session. When I arrived Mike was driving around in the bobcat. A little farm truck that they use to get around. When I arrived, Mike jumped at the chance to give me a tour in the bobcat. It’s a really beautiful place with a lake, corn fields, a barn, silos, wine cellar and farmhouse. As soon as Lindsay mentioned the place, I knew we would have fun.

Mike had just went on a terrible date and asked his friend, “Do you know any normal girls?”. The friend immediately thought of Lindsay and they met for drinks. 5 hours later they were still chatting over wine at Spamp’s, a bar in Conshohocken. Mike and Lindsay love wine. They actually keep a list of every bottle they have tried and their characteristics. Their favorite thing to do is grill out back with a nice red wine and watch crime dramas. I love me some crime dramas myself. I tried to get them to grill out for our session but dad had already stored the grill for the season so we settled for some nice homemade wine on the porch.

There was a row boat on the lake and I envisioned a nice little boat ride a la little mermaid, but we couldn’t figure out how to get the boat from the middle of the lake. Friends left it with no motor just floating in the middle. I hope someone doesn’t have to swim out there and get it, glad it won’t be me. =) Nixing the lake, Mike jumped in the driver seat of the bobcat and drove us to the cornfields. What a beautiful view!

Lindsay is so beautiful and bubbly. She is so easy to photograph. I love when my clients make my job super easy. If you look closely, Lindsay has a pair of designer jeans on. She claims this is her guilty pleasure because a great fitting pair of jeans is worth every penny. I couldn’t agree more! I am just glad my fave jeans are from H&M which only cost me $30 bucks!

Well, “cutie” also wore his designer jeans and posed for a few photos by the barn.

I was able to coax Lindsay out of her comfie jeans and into one of the cutest dresses I have ever seen. Totally fits her personality and when she is not looking, I am going to steal it.

Enjoy more pics! Can’t wait to see you guys on Saturday!

Christian Indian Wedding: Mythri and Prakash

Mythri is from Oklahoma. You would never guess from talking with her. Although, she did say, growing up she never quite fit in. Mythri describes her style as, “stilettos, mis-matched clothes and bright colors” I don’t know to many people from Oklahoma that say that.

I met her, Prakash and her best friend, Brooke. We hit it off immediately. Brooke was this vivacious girl with a southern drawl and has a great affinity for Mythri. They are like sisters and as goofy as can be. Mythri said to me, “I never thought I’d get married. I just never dated the right guys.” Of course, her parents always encouraged her to date indian men and being the rebellious daughter, she never would. Finally, she broke down and signed up for an indian online dating service. She wasn’t sure she’d find anyone she’d want to date but then one night, Prakash messaged her. “He wrote the message in yoda speak and it was just geeky enough to get me hooked. Then we realized he was visiting his family in a very small town in India which is the same town my family is originally from.” I asked Mythri what things she loves about Prakash, “he loves me as much as my family does, he randomly covers homeless people with blankets on the street and he’s bald”

Mythri and Prakash are a great pair. You can see the love, admiration and comfort that they give each other. They are both zany, although I think Mythri is more so. They also are self proclaimed geeks. I mean they had a Yoda cake at their wedding!

Mythri and Prakash had a gorgeous and full wedding day. Mythri had so many clothing changes, I could barely keep up. They planned to do a christian wedding in the morning for Prakash and his family, then family formals, then change clothes to her mother’s wedding sari, while the guests had cocktails at the Please Touch Museum, then a hindu ceremony, followed by the reception where Mythri changed into her own Longa. Towards the end of the night, after all the formalities were done she changed into sweats. Mythri said, ” The longa is so heavy and I want to DANCE and feel free” hence, the sweats. Prakash had his own set of clothing changes with a tux, a sherwani and then a mandarin collared coat and pants. I have to say all the colors and outfits were stunning.

New York actor headshot - Rebecca O’Sullivan

Now that I have moved back to New York, all my old actor and dancer friends are calling to get headshots. I actually really like it because I can take time with one person and really get to know them. An actor’s headshot is what gets the actor called in for auditions and remembered. A lot of times casting directors and agents get stopped by the way someone looks in their headshot. If they are casting a commercial or a show, it is about the look first. Then when they have the people they like then they check out their resumes and talent. Here in New York where there are so many talented actors, a great headshot can make or break you.

Many years ago, when I was a dancer, I temped at various offices around the city. Sometimes I got lucky and would work at a TV or commercial agency. I was just answering the phones but a lot of times the mail came to me first and they’d say-pull out anyone you think looks interesting and the rest just throw over here. Yeah the lowly secretary was getting a chance to pull out actors from the piles and piles of headshots. I mean how does anyone choose who will be in the next Crest commercial in a sea of talented and beautiful actors/actresses anyway?

Here are some photos I did for a very talented opera and musical theater actress. Rebecca sings with the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players and has done lots of off-broadway and regional theater. Rebecca is also branching out into commercial and extra work. Keep an eye out for the new Madonna movie, Rebecca plays a client at Sotheby’s.

New York Photographer went on vacation to Cape Cod

I never posted these! I took a much needed vacation at the end of August with the fam. We went camping in Cape Cod and then trekked up to Boston for 2 days. This was only the second time I have been camping…ever. This time we did it right. We bought the huge 6 person tent, brought the queen size air mattress, Allie got a twin size and picked a campground with nice bathrooms. I am not really made entirely for camping, gross bathrooms skeeve me out and with a 5 year old, telling her to not touch every gross surface in the bathroom is an undertaking. But it was really nice to do nothing for 4 days! I read an entire book, did crossword puzzles, checked out fashion magazines, went swimming and took hikes. We ventured up to P-town on our last day but I have to say the beaches along the way were much better than the overcrowded tourist trap. On our way back to the campground we discovered an amazing seafood restaurant, Mac’s Seafood Shack, on a little back road in Wellfleet. The lobster and clams were exquisite.

We then ventured up to Boston which was a lot of fun since I haven’t been back in 15 years. Both the hubby and I went to school there. He went to Berklee College of Music and I went for a year to Boston Conservatory. So much has changed in that town, especially near the schools. Our hotel was hosting the Emerson College “welcome to school” dance in the ballroom. It was interesting to see all the teenagers, bright eyed and new to all their independence, going in. I wondered if I was that green and awkward then. Who am I kidding, I am still green and awkward!

Here are a few pics from the trip!
